Chapter 15: Daniel
Poetry didn’t really click with me for a long time. I studied it in high school like most did, but it never really made much sense to me. I knew it had something to do with imagery and rhyming, except when it didn’t. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around it, especially what the rules were and when/why they could be broken. Even after the first 2/3rds of college I still couldn’t quite grasp it. Then, in the middle of a literature class (not a writing class) it suddenly seemed to click and I felt an overpowering urge to play around with the imagery and structural styles of poetry.
It was a time when I was borderline obsessed with World of Warcraft and the Cataclysm expansion was right on the horizon (or possibly had just come out) so that places the timeframe somewhere around late 2010, maybe a month or so into 2011 at the latest. Looking back, I don’t know if I truly understood poetry nearly as well as I thought, but I certainly tried… Thinking about it now, in 2016, I find the attempts charming and fun in their own right despite not being sure if they’re well made or not.
The plan was, at the time, to write 23 poems at the time. One for each playable race at the time, one for each of the two factions, and one for the Cataclysm expansion. In the end I only completed seven of them: one for the expansion, two for the Alliance faction, and four for the Horde faction. Below, you will find the former two types (expansion and Alliance), the Horde poems will be posted at some point in the near future.

Chapter 13: Discovery
Note: This is another one that might need to be split in half. I will mark the possible divide point with a line of *****. The trick is whether two (very) short chapters would flow easier than one longer one…
Chapter 12: The First Sign
Note: It occurred to me, upon reaching this point of editing, that I have made no mention of cell phones or anything to this point. Dunno if I was thinking this consciously, but it seems obvious to me that the reality warping nature of the setting that they’d be useless bricks of plastic and metal. Is this something worth going back and adding a line or two to earlier chapters referencing this? Or is it something sufficiently implied thus far? Something to consider going forward…
The third and final prelude chapter to Horcrux. Again, this is Harry Potter fanfiction and I don’t always want to admit to having written such… That said: This is BY FAR one of my favorite bits of short/flash fiction. I love how this turned out and though I can see more flaws with it now (half a decade after writing it) I still love the pathos of the piece. It’s one of the shortest of the bits, but its still a favorite.
This is the last of the preludes and I’m probably going to take a break from Horcrux for a while… Just for variety’s sake. There were 5 chapters completed before I abandoned the project. I’ll post those chapters eventually, but I doubt it’ll be in the near future. If you really love the story and want more now (beyond seeking medical help) I can direct you to Fanfiction.net. It’s all on there and I used my constant username, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find if you’re determined…
